I love the (most likely) way the OBR report was “leaked” - it demonstrates yet again how naive government is when it comes to technology, which explains why they always get it wrong and why the budget always goes out of the window (looking at you MoD procurement).

I think the last stat, that the fiscal headroom is 2/5 of the median difference between OBR projection and actual growth historically, reveals that the Chancellor has failed to ensure she won't have to come back and replay this charade for a second time in a row.

You haven’t mentioned the devolution of taxation power to Mayors: the Visitor Levy and the granting of more local control of business rates. This should help our regional cities to bring local infrastructure up to continental levels, and make them engines of growth. This to me is the most progressive element of the budget.

Yes really. The UK is an outlier among developed nations in the over centralisation of tax and spend powers. Money raised and spent locally is much more likely to be spent productively.

….and just think a bit more, what using AI might do to hack into Government planning platforms without much effort at all!

Spot on, unfortunately…

Every year, the Chancellor uses the same phrases, whoever they are. For example, they give predictions for certain figures for each of the next 5 years. These figures are ALWAYS wrong, so why do they keep spinning these fantasies? (Yes, the OBR need to make projections, but I bet these are based on scenarios....not predicting a single figure.)
