Agree with so much of this. But please could Fraser remember to make a clear distinction between sickness benefit and long-term incapacity benefit. Really must not stigmatise patients who need shorter term support while recovering from time limited illness.
Not the worst case been made around this. I think the cost of in person appointments would sky rocket. It wouldn't cost 'a bit more'. However, it might get us back to nearer the 40% number from 2010 period, rather than the 80% figure today going on sickness benefit
Yes, it all sounds like a way forward. Especially after the debacle of yesterday’s vote!…but I think everyone is looking in the wrong direction! Personally the whole system is being manipulated to avoid paying properly for support. Rather than cut make it higher! Those who need it should get it! The problem why we can’t afford it is the same reason why workers don’t get a proper wage! Normal workers should get paid more money than anyone on benefits, so there is a clear monetary reason to get work for those who can. But even if they wanted to, they can’t at the moment because there are no jobs! Unemployment is rising and will rise as the economy slows under all this debt and extra money needed for defence. Businesses fail and jobs are not guaranteed. So why can’t we pay better benefits and pay better wages? Well I will tell you, there is insufficient money in our daily snd monthly economy to sustain the spending required to make profit and pay proper tax revenue! It’s not rocket science! Although many will try and suggest it is. Our economy, any economy lives and dies on money! Without it nobody earns or works or gets paid and that means nobody can spend either! So it doesn’t matter how hard you work it’s just impossible if there are no customers with money to spend. As for taxation everyone gets it wrong! They don’t understand it and can’t see the differences or understand how it’s triggered. For example, income tax and NIC. Both are paid NOT by the employee but, by the employer! Paid with from earnings of the company and paid by them as a result straight to the exchequer. It’s not paid by the employee. It’s triggered by the company SPENDING on wages and us calculated on wages but not paid by the worker. So it’s a tax triggered by spending. As us VAT snd DUTY. Both are triggered as a result of spending. In fact all taxation is as a result of money moving via spending or by having to move. Now contrast that with money that doesn’t move or is not spent? Money not spent is NOT taxed! So money unspent or idle or unused triggers no tax! NONE!! Now we are told 95% of all money is held by just 5% of people! Wow! All that money with so few, surely that’s undemocratic? As well as unfair? Why do we have a system that allows that? Well whatever the reason, if it’s true, that means 95% of normal people are fighting over just 5% of money at any one time! No wonder we can’t pay our way. In my view it that ability for the rich to hold money without needing to pay tax that is why we are short of it. It’s why we can’t have better benefits including pensions. It’s why we can’t have better than benefits wages and why business is going under. It’s the lack of money being spent back that’s giving us this headache now!! We need a spending policy to make money have to be spent to flow back do enough economy is botany to pay enough taxes for our economy to work it’s that bloody simple! What we are seeing being played out by this train wreck in slow motion is exactly that, that we allow money to be held for years on end in such quantities we are all devoid of it. We shouldn’t argue about cuts to welfare!? We should point the finger the other way to those who hold money. It’s our money! It’s for exchange of work and without it flowing around we can’t survive. So Starmer and Reeves stop acting like Tory’s. Start acting like Labour should and make the rich spend it or take it back! Let them be rich on stuff bought, not hold our money. We have to spend it every month do why shouldn’t they? I’m all for earning as much as we can and enjoy it but those 5% are stopping us all from enjoying it too! Look the other way to lay blame. If we need money and we do, it has to come first from those who have it, not those who don’t. Isn’t that stating the obvious??
Please keep explaining this to those in power, its a scandal that we cannot afford and a tragedy for those in the system who could be leading better lives. The level of fraud is completely unacceptable, as well as the level of genuine need that is not being properly managed through to return to work.
